Type / Type Testing Method
Chemical Composition: ICP, Gravimetric, Combustion and Spectrophotometric.
Breaking Load Test: ASTM A-467
There are generally 3 methods of testing metals:
Destructive Test (DT), is a metal resistance test by causing damage to the metal being tested.
Non Destructive Test (NDT), is a metal testing method to find out whether the material being tested is safe and does not exceed the limit of damage. This method is generally performed during the fabrication process and after the fabrication process.
Metallography, is a method of studying microstructure, metal topography, metal phase, metal grain size, metal distribution and metal properties. In this method, the examiner uses an electron microscope such as optical emission spectroscopy (OES).
ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma)
Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) is a technique used to analyze the concentration of metallic elements in solid and liquid samples. The source of the excitation in the ICP is in the form of plasma which is generated from the radio frequency generator electromagnetic waves through the induction coil.
Combustion Methods
Combustion or burning at high temperatures is carried out to determine the carbon and sulfur content in various materials, both organic and inorganic. Samples are weighed accurately and placed in a ceramic container or kiln. Usually, it is used in conjunction with a combustion accelerator.
Gravimetric
An analytical chemical method to determine the known quantity of a substance or component by measuring the weight of the component in its pure state after going through a separation process. Gravimetric analysis involves the process of isolating and measuring the weight of a certain element or compound
ASTM A-467
American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) A-467 is an international standard for determining standard specifications on engines and coil chains. The standard designation usually consists of a letter prefix and a number assigned sequentially, including:
A: Iron and Steel Material
B: Non ferrous metal material
C: Ceramic, Concrete and Stone Materials
D: Miscellaneous materials
E: Other Materials / Topics
F: Material for special applications
G: Corrosion, damage and degradation of materials
